Kristen Cochefski: Connecticut’s Top Duckpin Bowler Keeps It Fun

When it comes to duckpin bowling in Connecticut, few names carry as much weight as Kristen Cochefski. At 29 years old, the Cromwell native has already amassed an impressive list of achievements: a Pro Tour victory, several tournament series wins, and the distinction of being the number one ranked bowler in the state for the past few years.
Kristen’s story begins the way many great ones do—with family. “I was born into a duckpin bowling family and was always in the bowling alley growing up,” she shares. That early exposure led her to start bowling at the age of seven. By the time she turned 21, she had worked her way “up to the big leagues.”
Now, with 22 years of bowling experience, Kristen has become a fixture on the lanes. While some bowlers rely on quirky techniques or unique styles, Kristen keeps it simple. “I do not,” she says when asked about any distinctive approaches or strategies. What sets her apart is her steady presence and strong performances under pressure.
For Kristen, the most rewarding part of the game isn’t just the wins—it’s the relationships. “Meeting all the new people and gaining lifelong friendships” is what she considers the best part of duckpin bowling. And when it comes to standout moments in her career, she doesn’t hesitate: “Winning the pro tour.”
Like any athlete, Kristen has her challenges. “Hitting singles (especially the corner pins)” is the part of the game that tests her the most. But she keeps her focus in check with one key philosophy: “Having fun, as long as you're having fun, that's all that matters. If you're not having fun, then it's going to show.”
That positive outlook carries over into her advice for new bowlers: “If you're contemplating bowling, just do it. There's no harm in trying something once. Stay focused, have fun and make some friends.” It’s advice rooted in experience and delivered with genuine encouragement.
As for what’s next, Kristen has her sights set on a few big milestones: “I would like to have more 200 games, finally hit 500 and win another pro tour in the future.” Balancing bowling with the rest of life isn’t always easy, but she makes it work. “Sometimes it's hard, but I usually do a pretty good job of working my life around tournament schedules, but there is a tournament here and there that I miss.”
With her fun-first mindset and unwavering commitment to the sport, Kristen Cochefski continues to be a role model in the duckpin bowling community. Her journey—from a childhood spent in the bowling alley to the top of the state rankings—is a

reminder of what makes this sport so special: not just the scores, but the people, the memories, and the love of the game.
